Writing a business blog? Make it memorable.
If you want people to read your blog – and keep coming back for more – you need to make it engaging. Compelling, surprising, entertaining, genuinely edifying. Of course you do! Seems obvious, but you’d be amazed how many bloggers write uninspiring, instantly forgettable copy. Don’t forget that while you may find your area of expertise fascinating, your reader may not. Think of the most boring party guest you’ve ever been stuck with. Remember how they sent you to sleep with their dull work stories? That’s how not to be. Be boring and you’ll be remembered for all the wrong reasons. It’s up to you to make it genuinely appealing, and that means working out what aspects to focus on. Tune into their anxieties. (“Mortgage worries? I have the answers”). Or offer them advice in a palatable way. (“Need to buy a new bed? Here’s are the top 5 things to look out for”). Or explain the impact of news that may concern them. (“Changes to child benefit? Let me tell you what you need to know”). Capturing what is relevant to your reader and conveying it in a memorable way makes you instantly more readable – and a source your reader will trust.
